Happy birthday, everyone! : D
According to Chinese traditions,
the 7th day of the first month of the Lunar
New year calendar is 人日, which translates into
everybody's birthday! : )
& guess what? : )
This is MY year, too!
Since i was born in a RAT year, as indicated by
the Chinese zodiac ; )
Not that i believe in any of those ideas,
but me being born in RAT year plays
a significant role to my parents' love story,
or so i believed : b
So it always makes me giggly & proud to announce,
ME! ME! A RAT! : D
Anyhow, so Fafa bought 2 traditional desserts for
Chinese New Year, and decided to share them with me ; )
Left: Water Chestnut Cake (馬蹄糕)
Right: Coconut Milk Sweet Rice Cake (椰汁糖年糕)
In order to make them edible,
Fa taught me the secret:
1) Whisk an egg.
2) Cut the sweets into an inch thick (or less,
if you're REALLY hungry or impatient, or both)
3) Dip the cakes into the egg batter,
until fully coated & dripping : )
4) Add a bit oil into the skillet.
Keep it on high heat until it's smokin' hot!
5) Lower the heat and
spread out the cakes on the pan.
Cook for 2-3 minutes : )
Or until they appear soft
when poked with chopsticks.
My co-workers made their own Rice Cakes at home 0_o
(Now THAT's SKILLS!)
Fafa cheated : b he bought from Tai Pan Bakery ; )
TAAAAA DAAAA! : )
hehe sorry it's my first time : b
the eggs look kinda burnt,
but i guarentee you it tastes superb! ; )
